Environmental aspects of equipment design have been a requirement for many products since the introduction of legislations such as WEEE, ROHS and the Ecodesign Directive to name a few. The issue is that the legislations have been rather fragmented and focussing on specific areas only. PAS7700:2024 brings all the ecodesign measures together in a single standard to help manufacturers.

From the 18th August 2024, batteries marketed in the EU single market need to be CE marked, which involves the manufacturer carrying out a conformity assessment and establishing appropriate Technical Documentation and an EU Declaration of Conformity.

This Morning (1st August 2023), the UK Government has stated that it intends to continue recognition of the CE mark indefinitely for most goods being placed on the market in Great Britain; this is a statement which revokes the previous mandatory requirement for the UKCA mark to be placed on applicable goods after December 2024.
