Location: Great Hucklow, Derbyshire (home based during Covid restrictions)

Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent, full-time or could be flexible for the right candidate

The Role:

You will be working alongside our senior consultants on prestigious projects for major global players in the industrial, commercial and consumer product sectors.  A professional and organised attitude is essential to achieve a job that needs an analytical approach and a working knowledge of product safety based on UK, EU and international standards.  This role requires a graduate with a good rounded experience in either electrical or mechanical engineering.  Heavy industry, production line experience and practical skills would all be advantageous.

We expect to appoint:

Machinery –  knowledge and experience of:

  • Regulatory compliance (product safety)
  • Machinery Directive and standards
  • Machinery Risk Assessment
  • Machinery safety standards (e.g. EN ISO 12100, EN ISO 13849)
  • Machinery guarding
  • Structural calculations
  • Control systems
  • Electrical equipment of machinery
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems

Responsibilities include

  • Examination and risk assessment of equipment on behalf of clients
  • Assisting clients with the identification and application of relevant legislation and standards for safety and performance of their products
  • Assisting clients with the design and implementation of safety and quality projects and procedures
  • Evaluation, preparation and compilation of Technical Files
  • Recommending, preparing and performing test and examination procedures
  • Examining client’s products and processes and determining deficiencies
  • Site visits to clients' premises in the UK and worldwide
  • Reporting your findings to the client by telephone, email and formal reports
  • Research into existing and proposed legislation and standards
  • Preparation and presentation of training materials and courses

Candidate Specification

  • You are likely to be a graduate with experience in manufacturing industry
  • Practical skills and workshop experience would be an advantage
  • You will be an effective communicator capable of establishing good customer relationships and who recognises the importance of keeping customers informed of project progress
  • You will have great commercial awareness, establishing a clear and full understanding of the scope of work, budgets and time frames
  • You will be organised and able to plan and prioritise your day-to-day workload
  • You will have good attention to detail and will ensure that good records of your work are kept
  • You will have a professional manner and you will be capable of delivering the results of your work to the client whether it is good news or bad
  • You will be self-motivated and able to work effectively without constant supervision
  • You will be comfortable applying your knowledge and experience in new situations
  • You will recognise the value of teamwork and developing and maintaining good relationships with other staff
  • You will be able to supervise and motivate junior staff
