PAS7100 is a new guidance document designed to help companies to handle product recalls effectively.
CE marking places explicit requirements on ‘economic operators’ to manage the safety of the products they are responsible for. ‘Economic operators’ includes distributors and retailers in the supply chain as well as manufacturers.
When a product safety issue comes to light, the New Legislative Framework requires the responsible economic operator(s) to provide information immediately to the relevant regulator(s) and decide on appropriate corrective action. Responsible economic operators should have a Product Safety Incident Plan (PSIP) prepared before it is required. A company with a PSIP is prepared for any safety incident that may occur. A PSIP is a document setting out in clear terms the responsibilities and actions in the event of a product recall. It is important that all parties know what is expected from them, and that the senior management team supports it.
